Retired From Clinical Practice
Dr. Dunfey retired from clinical practice in June 2022. As an experienced licensed clinical psychologist, she was highly regarded for her expertise in psychotherapy, critical incident debriefing, management consulting, and teaching. She earned a Master's and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Her 1993 dissertation research was the first scientific inquiry on stigma and the effects of a Presidential candidate’s treatment in psychotherapy on voting preferences. In addition to her academic and clinical training, Dr. Dunfey brought a wealth of rich personal relationships and many years of professional experience in business, government, and political environments to her psychology practice dedicated to "healing lives one person at a time."
Clinical and Consulting Psychologist
During her 30-year psychology practice in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and California, Dr. Dunfey specialized in the treatment of adults in individual psychotherapy. She offered her clients a way to heal past emotional wounds, explore relationships, family dynamics, career decisions, major life transitions, deal with anxiety and depression, and increase awareness, joy, and inner peace. Dr. Dunfey also worked as a consulting psychologist to business organizations providing critical incident stress debriefing, mediation and dispute resolution, executive coaching, and communication skills training. Having previously worked as a human resource management professional, she brought an expert understanding of issues in the workplace to her consulting and psychotherapy practice. Dr. Dunfey developed an expertise in treating emotional trauma in emergency circumstances and was frequently called upon and highly respected for her work providing critical incident stress debriefing services to employees of business organizations throughout New England.
Teacher and Supervisor
Additionally, Dr. Dunfey taught and supervised clinical psychology graduate students at the University of Southern California, the California School of Professional Psychology, and Salem State College. Dr. Dunfey taught graduate courses in clinical interviewing, psychodiagnostic assessment, clinical interventions, couples and family therapy, and legal and ethical issues in mental health professions.
